Frozen - Disturbingly Amazing ...
2 May 2018
With only three main characters and three extras the play was done amazingly well. It was deep, disturbing and amazing all at the same time. The apt music, lighting and simple stage set-up drew me in deeply and I went away deep in thought about the entire play .... truly well done and amazing actors.

Chills and thrills
28 April 2018
It's 20 years since Bryony Lavery's play hit the stage but it is as topical as ever. There are plenty of shocks in this story of a paedophile serial killer, including some strong language, but it is used in context and not gratuitously. There are also some lighter moments to make us laugh, perhaps because we recognise ourselves in certain scenarios. It was a treat to see two of our greatest living actors on stage instead of a TV screen. Jason Watkins is creepily credible as the child murderer and Suranne Jones tugs at the heartstrings as the grieving mother of one of his young victims. She captures the whole range of emotions as the years pass until she finally confronts her daughter's killer. Nina Sosanya's psychologist studying serial killers and the nature/nurture debate provides an interesting third dinension. There were times when the audience was itself frozen and you could have heard a pin drop. A challenging, thought-provoking but also entertaining evening.

27 April 2018
The show was gripping and left you wondering which paths it was going to take as you watched the three main characters tell their parts seperately and later you saw how they interacted with each other. The main characters performed amazingly. You felt empathy with the mother as she struggled with acknowledging her daughters death and whether to forgive the man responsible.

Frozen and "Chilling"
26 April 2018
Frozen Theatre Royal, Haymarket
Frozen is about the abduction of a young girl, Rhona, her mother, Nancy (Suranne Jones), Rhona's abducter and serial killer, Ralph (Jason Watkins) and American Psychologist , Agnetha (Nina Sosanya) who is making a study of serial killer Ralph.
The play is done mainly through monolgues and it gradually transpires that Rhona went missing 20 years ago and examines how Nancy has coped/not coped with her abduction and death powerfully played, on the night I was there, by the understudy who not just coped with the performance but played it superbly.
Nina Sosanya does a great job with a difficult role, investigating whether serial killers can be created through cranial damage in childhood.
The play is stolen by Jason Watkins. Chilling, disturbing, and uncomfortable to watch in his portrayal of the child rapist/killer.
An uneasy to watch "tour de force"

Great drama
23 April 2018
A really well told play about a missing child. The trauma of being a parent in that situation was really well acted by Suranne Jones, as were the other characters, particularly the part of the paedophile. It wasn't a light drama, and definitely isn't for children or the weak hearted, but it was gripping from start to finish.

This show left me cold
20 April 2018
When we arrived I was really apprehensive because I thought the subject matter of the play might be too distressing, but in the event I was barely affected at all. I didn't really go on a journey with Suranne in her pain. The show would work much better in a smaller, more intimate theatre. It's unquestionably a talented cast but it feels like the performances have perhaps got sloppy towards the end of the run: it needs the director to get in and sharpen it up, particularly the very inconsistent accents! Nice staging, however.

excellent!
20 April 2018
an absolute excellent play, for the construction of the story, for the scenography, but maybe most of all for the 3 actors playing really complex personalities and drama. Not an easy story to tell, painful and hard, but it brings you to a bigger picture that help understanding.

Interesting night
16 April 2018
I admit I did not know exactly what to expect entering the theatre. I was extremely impressed by three actors who gradually wove a tale of people's lives while facing every parents nightmare. The setting and use of staging was dramatic and intriguing. I hesitate to say I was entertained but I was very pleased I experienced this production.

Frozen; decidedly chilling
15 April 2018
Not a play for the fainthearted, this portrayal of paedophilia and grief is chillingly told in this topical revival. The acting is moving, especially Nina Sosanya as the neurotic psychiatrist who tries to explain the pathology of the protagonist and the grieving mother.

Walked in having no real expectations as to what this play was going to be, however by the end of the first half I was blown away by the intensity and dark nature of the story. Jason Watkins had me squirming in my seat from his very first scene. I didn't know where the second half was going to go, however I wasn't disappointed.....brilliant acting by all the cast and a story that was an important one to tell.

Dark and Disturbing
13 April 2018
A fascinating exploration into the psyche of a serial murderer and their impact on society.
A powerful piece with equally powerful performances that delve into the mindsets of the characters in the piece.
The powerful provocative and alarming language is perfectly in synch with the piece.
The dark bare set serves to reflect the drama as does the music.
The over wheming menacing nature of the piece is thought provoking and frankly frightening.
It deals with innocence fear guilt forgiveness and responsibility.
Marvellous performances especially from the actor playing the murderer.
A memorable theatre experience.

13 April 2018
Excellent casting. I'd been unsure about seeing this having seen reviews that mentioned some bad language in it. However, I'm glad I went as the play was very good. The language was appropriately used for one of the characters and was not used frivilously. Well worth seeing. I'm still thinking about the content even now!
