Summary: In the mood for some classic music? Try Dreamboats and Petticoats in the West End.
London theatre fans who sometimes feel nostalgic for the innocent days of the 1950s and 1960s could consider booking tickets for Dreamboats and Petticoats in the West End.
Based on the compilation albums of the same name, the musical is unashamedly romantic about that bygone era and is packed full of hit tracks that many theatregoers will remember from their teenage years.
It explores the birth of rock'n'roll and features songs from Brits Billy Fury, Adam Faith, Joe Brown and Helen Shapiro, as well as exciting American names like Bill Haley, Buddy Holly and Bobby Darin.
History buffs or simply those who were there will recognise teddy boys, retro leather jackets and quiffs, while younger audience members are sure to enjoy the lively atmosphere and soap opera-style plot.
Told in flashback by an old man who stumbles upon his guitar while searching for something in an attic with his granddaughter, Dreamboats and Petticoats features Norman, who thinks he is God's gift to women.
He and hero Bobby are pitted against each other in a songwriting competition and emotions run high when they also try to win the attention of the glamorous Sue.
However, when Bobby finds that shy local girl Laura also has hidden musical talent, he realises they must pair up to achieve rock'n'roll fame - and they both get more than they bargained for.
Charles Spencer of the Telegraph recently gave Dreamboats and Petticoats four stars, calling it "lovely" and reporting that it really brought the memories flooding back.
The Mail on Sunday was also full of praise for the show, commenting: "It's great fun, as loud as you like, and the music is sublime."
If you like musicals in which the hits come thick and fast, then book theatre tickets for Dreamboats and Petticoats!
