The Wizard of Oz 'is sure to be a runaway success'
Tuesday, 1 March 2011
A reviewer has said that The Wizard of Oz is likely to be Andrew Lloyd Webber's next big success story following its opening this week.
The unnamed author, writing for the Bristol Evening Post, said she went to see the musical at the London Palladium with her husband as part of a London city break.
She said the theatre trip was "the icing on the cake", with Danielle Hope one of the main highlights.
The critic also praised Michael Crawford as the Wizard and the special effects used to create the tornado, but added that it was Hannah Waddingham as the Wicked Witch of the West who really impressed her.
"This is one show that fits all. It's destined to be a runaway success, with such a talented cast and crew steering its path, how could it be anything else?" the writer concluded.
Last month, Jenna Sloan said in an article for the Sun that The Wizard of Oz is "truly spectacular" thanks to special effects including characters dropping in from the ceiling and coming up from beneath the floor.
