Million Dollar Quartet 'is interval free'
Monday, 28 February 2011
People heading to the Noel Coward Theatre to see the Million Dollar Quartet may be surprised to learn that the production does not feature an interval.
According to the Independent, this is part of a wider trend that has seen arts spaces up and down the country forego the mid-story break.
The publication noted there are plenty of advantages to this change, particularly in terms of paying for fewer expensive drinks and dealing with long bar queues.
But the newspaper stressed that theatres must also consider people's need to go to the lavatory, particularly during longer plays.
For those readying themselves for an interval-free production of Million Dollar Quartet, the prospect of hearing classic tunes such as Blue Suede Shoes, I Walk the Line and Great Balls of Fire may be enough to forget their more base needs for a short time.
The musical is based on the true story of how Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis once spent time in a recording studio together.
