Children win prize to ride War Horse puppets

Friday, 25 February 2011

Two children have enjoyed the unique experience of riding around the New London Theatre stage on the huge puppets used in the hit play War Horse.

The youngsters were initially going to have to decide which of the pair would get the honour - as it was meant for just one person - but they were both allowed to have a go, according to the London Evening Standard.

Hebe and Leo Reynolds rode the War Horse puppets as a prize for being the millionth visitor - or in this case visitors - to see the show.

"It was like actually being on a real horse, I thought," Leo told the publication.

In a strange coincidence, one of the horses that inspired Michael Morpugo to write the New London Theatre production was also called Hebe.

The name comes from the Greek goddess of youth, who was the daughter of Zeus and Hera, according to mythology.

While the youngsters rode the puppets, their parents John and Adriece had a chance to chat to Morpugo, the newspaper explained.ADNFCR-3104-ID-800429499-ADNFCR
