The Children's Hour star discusses Aunt Lily
Thursday, 24 February 2011
It has come as something of a surprise to Carol Kane to be playing Aunt Lily in The Children's Hour at the Comedy Theatre.
In an interview with Broadway.com, the actress described how, as a youngster, she saw it as a dream to be able to work on the play.
Kane said: "I started working professionally when I was 14 and thought that I might play one of the girls, but here I am playing Aunt Lily [laughs]."
The Children's Hour is about two women in charge of a boarding school whose lives are wrecked by rumours and the culture of fear they create.
However, Kane described how her character has been fun to play, as Aunt Lily exudes an air of extravagance.
The 58-year-old Oscar nominee told the theatre news website that she "loves" Lillian Hellman, the writer of the play who also penned acclaimed works such as The Little Foxes and Toys in the Attic.
