Matt Lucas 'set for Les Miserables role'
Wednesday, 23 February 2011
Theatre goers heading to the Queen's Theatre London to enjoy Les Miserables later this year could see comedian Matt Lucas in the classic West End show.
The Little Britain and Shooting Stars funnyman will join the cast from June 23rd to September 10th 2011 playing Thenardier.
Lucas's appearance is not the only important change to the roster, with opera tenor Alfie Boe and Hadley Fraser due to be involved from the same date.
The former will take the role of Jean Valjean, while Fraser will play police inspector Javert.
Although Lucas is best known for television comedy, the role of Thernardier is not new to him.
He played the character in a one-off show in 2010 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Les Miserables stage show.
Thernardier is one of the main villains in the story along with Madame Thernardier, although the pair are presented in a more humorous light in the musical than in Victor Hugo's original novel.
