Speculation builds over possible replacement for Dirty Dancing
Thursday, 17 February 2011
Theatregoers will be interested to hear that many sources are currently speculating about which play will replace Dirty Dancing at the Aldwych Theatre.
Whatonstage.ocm tantalised fans of the theatre with the suggestion that the Royal Shakespeare Company's (RSC's) musical version of Matilda could be transferring to the West End as a theatre will now be available sooner than expected.
Another production in the running could be a revival of Chess by Craig Revel Horwood, which theatre producer David Mirvish recently revealed would take to the stage of the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto between September and October before moving to the West End.
Others are placing their bets on a musical version of Lend Me A Tenor, which first opened in 2007 at the Utah Shakespeare Theatre, and has been rumoured to be planning to travel to the West End.
An upcoming adaptation of Rebecca which has faced technical issues at the Shaftesbury could perhaps find a new home at the Aldwych.
In addition, Nypost.com recently revealed that the RSC's production of Matilda will come to London this autumn.
