Matt Lucas wins six month contract with Les Miserables
Thursday, 10 February 2011
Little Britain star Matt Lucas is set to play villain Thenardier in the West End production Les Miserables.
The comedian impressed bosses after his one-off performance as the character during the musical's 25th anniversary show in December.
As a result, Lucas has been given a six-month contract to star on stage at the Queen's Theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue.
He will take over the role from former S Club 7 singer Jon Lee, who had been starring in Cameron Mackintosh's production.
Victor Hugo's Les Miserables tells the tale of a man's journey through 18th century France and his battle to survive injustice during the revolution.
Lucas previously commented that his ideal day would be "watching Arsenal in the afternoon and a performance of Les Mis in the evening", the Sun reports.
The 36-year-old recently appeared on the BBC in his latest TV offering Come Fly With Me alongside comedy partner David Walliams.
