The Wizard of Oz 'is truly spectacular'
Tuesday, 8 February 2011
The Wizard of Oz has been given its first positive review from the press ahead of its official opening next month.
Writing for the Sun, Jenna Sloan said the musical is "truly spectacular", with witches and other characters dropping in from the ceiling and coming up from beneath the floor.
She lauded the special effects implemented for the show, describing the collapse of Dorothy's home as "almost cinematic".
Meanwhile, Ms Sloan was also full of praise for Danielle Hope as Dorothy, saying that her rendition of Over the Rainbow earned her "rapturous" applause and a standing ovation at the end.
The critic concluded by saying that she is sure Andrew Lloyd Webber has "another smash on his hands" with the Wizard of Oz, which has its gala opening at the London Palladium on March 1st 2011.
It is currently booking until September 17th 2011, but this date is likely to be extended in the near future according to demand.
