Young performer to play Munchkin in The Wizard of Oz
Thursday, 3 February 2011
An 11-year-old boy has scooped the role of a Munchkin in the run of shows of The Wizard of Oz which are soon to get underway at the London Palladium.
Jamie Kaye was selected for the role, which involves singing and dancing, after missing out on parts for Oliver and Les Miserables last year, reports the Kent and Sussex Courier.
But he will now light up the stage at the London Palladium in The Wizard of Oz alongside performers such as Michael Crawford and the winner of Over the Rainbow Danielle Hope.
"When I was five I was watching a movie and I liked what the actors were doing. I did want to be a trampoline coach but now I want to be an actor," said Jamie.
Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were treated to a sneak preview of The Wizard of Oz at a gala for The Prince's Foundation for Children and the Arts this, reports the Press Association.
