Million Dollar Quartet 'could be favourably compared with Jersey Boys'
Monday, 31 January 2011
Many people heading to the Noel Coward Theatre to see Million Dollar Quartet may be reminded of fellow West End musical Jersey Boys.
This is the view of Daily Telegraph writer Graham Boynton, who observed the new production is more than just a string of pop songs connected by a paper-thin plot.
Million Dollar Quartet is based on the real-life story about how Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins jammed together in a studio in Memphis on December 4th 1956.
The musical supervisor for the show is Chuck Mead and he told the publication he is not worried about comparisons with Jersey Boys.
"A lot of people compare this to Jersey Boys and I can live with that," he was quoted as saying.
Fans of the musical icons represented in Million Dollar Quartet are not likely to be disappointed by the show when it opens on February 28th 2011, as classic tracks such as Hound Dog and Walk the Line will be performed.
