London theatre tickets lure helps capital retain top spot for breaks
Friday, 28 January 2011
A continuing demand for London theatre tickets has helped the capital retain the top spot in a list of the most popular UK destinations for short breaks.
Superbreak compiled the top ten cities to visit in Britain, with London coming first and Edinburgh and York taking second and third place respectively.
Also featuring among the top destinations were Blackpool and Manchester.
Superbreak sales director Ian Mounser explained that people are being encouraged to book breaks to London this year as a result of the forthcoming opening of musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Shrek the Musical and Ghost.
He added that the rising cost of fuel could also mean people who usually drive to the continent for their holidays will be looking for British holidays.
Data released this week from the Society of London Theatre showed that more than 14 million visits to the West End took place in 2010.
