Love Never Dies 'is less confusing and more engaging'
Wednesday, 19 January 2011
The revamped version of Love Never Dies being performed at the Adelphi Theatre is a lot more accessible than the original musical, according to one commentator.
Writing for the Independent, Edward Seckerson described how he thoroughly enjoyed the previous incarnation of the piece, despite the critical drubbing it received.
But he accepted that the plot connections, which have been made more obvious and easy to understand, certainly allow the crowd to know where they are in terms of the story.
"There is no question that its radical revamp, principally focused on the lengthy first act exposition, eradicates some of the confusions and engages its audience with grabby immediacy," remarked Mr Seckerson.
The reviewer highlighted how the second act has been left relatively unchanged - a decision he agrees with.
Love Never Dies is the sequel to Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera and sees the masked figure return, with the action taking place in New York as opposed to Paris.
