The West End's Gielgud Theatre will be the setting for a new stage adaptation of a 1964 French film, it has been announced.
The stage version of Michel Legrand's The Umbrellas of Cherbourg will play at the Gielgud Theatre from March 22nd this year. Previews will begin on March 5th and the show is initially set to play a 30-week run, according to What's On Stage.
Before heading to London's legendary West End, the show will be delighting audiences in Leicester and is scheduled to play its Curve Theatre from February 11th to the 26th.
The show stars Joanna Riding, known for her role as Mrs Wilkinson in Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace Theatre, as well as Carly Bawden in her West End debut, the source noted.
Star of Broadway show Spring Awakening Andrew Durand will also take to the stage in the adaptation.
The original film stars movie legend Catherine Denevue, Nino Castelnuovo and Anne Vernon. It tells the story of 17-year-old Genevieve, who lives with her mother, a widower who owns an umbrella store in Cherbourg.
