Grease to get new cast for final months in West End
Wednesday, 12 January 2011
Those heading to London's Piccadilly Theatre to see Grease this year might find themselves watching a different cast than usual, as the musical undergoes a transformation for its last few months on stage.
As of January 24th 2011, Carina Gillespie will be taking over the role of Sandy in her West End debut. She will star alongside Matthew Goodgame as Danny and is set to stay in the iconic role until April 30th, when the musical closes.
Gillespie has previously starred in The Buddy Holly Story, Bloodbath - The Musical and Jack in the Beanstalk at Regents Theatre in Ipswich.
As well as appearing on stage, Gillespie has enjoyed a successful career as a session singer and has released her own solo single.
Danny and Sandy, the iconic couple played by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in the film on which the musical is based, were previously portrayed by Lauren Samuels and Noel Sullivan.
Samuels is recognisable from TV talent show Over the Rainbow and Sullivan was once a member of pop group Hear'say.
