Les Miserables 'can rival any modern soap opera'
Tuesday, 11 January 2011
Fans of high drama have been told that classic West End musical Les Miserables is enough to compete with any modern soap opera.
The Rhyl Journal noted that the "entangled yet mesmerising web" that the show's characters inhabit can rival the drama seen on the set of most modern soap shows.
The production features many well-known and memorable songs, sung to a wide variety of musical instruments and encompassing a number of styles, it said.
"Classical sounds, however, are superseded by a more modern style of music, incorporating elements of pop and rock, synthesizers and drum sets," the newspaper noted.
Theatre fans may not know that the classic show is based on a book by Victor Hugo. It tells the story of life in Paris leading up to and during an anti-monarchist uprising by students.
Les Miserables can be seen at the Queen's Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue in London and is currently booking until October 29th 2011.
