Get Into London Theatre 'has already sold more than 43,000 tickets'
Thursday, 6 January 2011
Despite only officially launching yesterday (January 5th 2011), the capital's annual Get Into London Theatre promotion has already proved to be a hit with fans of the stage.
The initiative allows London residents and visitors to get reduced price tickets to West End shows such as Jersey Boys at the Prince Edward Theatre and Priscilla Queen Of The Desert at the Palace Theatre.
An event last night saw Avenue Q star Daniel Boys open the scheme, which has already seen 43,000 London theatre tickets sold to audiences, while there are still more to be snapped up, Official London Theatre reports.
Louise Dearman, who is currently starring as Glinda the Good in Wicked, said: "It's stressful times right now and to be able to sit down and have a bit of escapism is really important. To give people this opportunity for cheaper tickets is really great."
Parents looking for a family-friendly theatre show could get cheap tickets to Wicked through the scheme, which is based on Gregory McGuire's novel, inspired by the Wizard of Oz.
