Love Never Dies alterations 'sharpen up the show'
Friday, 31 December 2010
The alterations made to Love Never Dies have helped to sharpen up what was already a very good show, according to one critic.
Charles Spencer of the Telegraph said he thought the musical sequel was Andrew Lloyd Webber's best since Phantom of the Opera when he went to see it back in March 2010.
However, he admitted that the recent tweaks made by the theatre mogul help to clarify the narrative and give it a much stronger opening, with the opera ghost now the first character to appear.
Mr Spencer said he thinks it would be "tragic" if Love Never Dies garnered bad reviews that caused it to close, as he is sure that it will be recognised as a classic piece of London theatre one day.
A relaunch night was recently held for critics at the Adelphi Theatre so they could review the changes to the musical after it closed briefly in November 2010.
