London theatre stars appear in New Year Honours list
Friday, 31 December 2010
Fans of London theatre may be pleased to see some familiar faces in the New Year Honours list announced today (December 31st 2010) by the palace.
Among the names are a host of stage performers, some of whom appeared in plays or musicals as recently as this year.
David Suchet, 64, is one actor to be awarded a CBE for his contributions to the arts. He starred in All My Sons to critical acclaim earlier in 2010.
Herbert Kretzmer, who wrote the lyrics for the hit musical Les Miserables, has been given an OBE, while Harriet Walter is to be made a dame.
She appeared in The Children's Hour - which is to be revived next year and star Keira Knightley - back in 1994.
Sister Act star Sheila Hancock has also been given a CBE in the list.
The 77-year-old may be surprised by the accolade, as she recently told the Telegraph that she struggles with nerves before each of her performances.
A hypnotist helped her to overcome her fear while she played Mother Superior in Sister Act.
