Four star review for new look Love Never Dies
Thursday, 23 December 2010
The new look version of Love Never Dies has received a four-star review from one impressed theatre critic.
David Lister of the Independent said the tweaks implemented by West End impresario Bill Kenwright have helped to bring more focus and dramatic tension to the action on stage at the Adelphi Theatre.
He pointed out that the musical is all the better for opening with a meeting between the Phantom and his muse Christine.
"Kenwright seems to have brought a more intimate, even claustrophobic feel to the drama, which is not only deeply romantic but both scary and haunting," Mr Lister commented.
Explaining that Love Never Dies is well worth a second viewing, the critic gave it four stars.
Earlier this week, Michael Coveney from WhatsonStage.com highlighted some of the changes to the show, which include Madame Giry's song being moved to a new setting and the Phantom's ballad providing the grand opening.
