Changes highlighted in Love Never Dies
Wednesday, 22 December 2010
A theatre critic has been mulling over the changes made to Love Never Dies following the second press evening last night (December 21st 2010).
Michael Coveney from WhatsonStage.com explained that the beginning of the musical now opens with the Paris Opera House in flames, followed by Christine's ship crossing to ocean to New York.
Madame Giry's song has also been moved to a new setting, but the critic said this does not detract from "Liz Robertson's fine performance".
Although the ending of Love Never Dies remains much the same, Mr Coveney said it is still the scene in which Christine sings for the Phantom that steals the show.
"It's as great as Elaine Paige on the balcony of the Casa Rosada in Evita," he enthused.
Earlier this month, WhatsonStage.com reported that the cast of the musical sequel to Phantom of the Opera have recorded their own backstage version of The Twelve Days of Christmas.
