Camilla Parker Bowles meets War Horse puppet
Friday, 17 December 2010
The Duchess of Cornwall met the puppet and the actors behind the West End play War Horse this week.
She was attending the London International Horse Show as patron of the British Equestrian Federation and came face-to-face with Joey, the equine star who gets sold to the cavalry during World War I in the story.
Commenting on how amazingly lifelike the mechanical structure is, she shook hands with the operators inside and patted it on the neck.
"I feel I should be giving it a Polo," the Duchess commented.
Tim Lewis, who appears as Ludwig in War Horse, said he found it nice to see some real horses after working with a wooden one for so long.
Last month, John McMullen of the Berkeley Daily Planet recommended War Horse as a moving, excellent piece of theatre, praising the way it also tells the story of a German cavalry officer as well as the British men.
