Irish performer gets chance to become Phantom of the Opera
Thursday, 9 December 2010
A performer originally from Ireland got the chance to shine in The Phantom of the Opera this week after stepping in as the understudy.
Brian McCann told the Limerick Leader that it was a dream come true that he had to stand in for John Owen Jones as the opera ghost on Tuesday (December 7th 2010) after the full-time actor fell ill.
"Being in Phantom as an understudy to the title role is a thrilling experience and playing the Phantom is something I could only have dreamt about when I first moved over here," he added.
However, it is not the first time McCann has trod the boards of the West End, having also appeared in We Will Rock You alongside Queen rocker Brian May.
The Phantom of the Opera celebrated its 10,000th performance at Her Majesty's Theatre in October 2010.
Both Andrew Lloyd Webber and Michael Crawford took to the stage to mark the milestone.
