London theatre shows to open up special offers in New Year
Wednesday, 8 December 2010
Some of London's top theatre shows have unveiled a series of special offers as part of a new initiative aimed at enticing visitors to the West End in the New Year, with prices cut for more than 50 productions.
The Get Into London Theatre scheme will see ticket costs starting at just £10 for plays including Jersey Boys, the English National Ballet's Romeo and Juliet and Bruce Norris' new comedy drama Clybourne Park.
"You can bag a bargain at a time when people are watching their pennies," said the capital's mayor, Boris Johnson. "It's a fabulous opportunity to discover why our theatre industry is the envy of the world."
The publicity drive will also see the cast and crew of world-famous musical Chicago and post-modern Hitchcock adaptation The 39 Steps offer unique insights into behind-the-scenes workings in London's theatreland.
One of the city's most popular ongoing family performances is Wicked, based on Gregory Maguire's novel re-imagining The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
