Rebecca to follow Flashdance into Shaftesbury Theatre?
Tuesday, 23 November 2010
It has been suggested that a musical adaptation of classic novel Rebecca could be set to succeed Flashdance at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
According to WhatsonStage.com, Austrian musical theatre producers VBW Theater have hinted that the production could head to the West End venue in spring 2011.
The English translation will be directed by Michael Blakemore, but it is not yet known who would star in the show.
It was originally suggested by the same news provider in June 2010 that Rebecca could replace Priscilla, Queen of the Desert at the Palace Theatre, but the camp Australian musical is continuing to perform strongly.
Daphne du Maurier first began to write Rebecca in the summer of 1937 and it was published in April 1938, according to DuMaurier.org.
It tells the story of what happens when Maxim de Winter moves his new wife into his estate in Manderley, much to the chagrin of housekeeper Mrs Danvers, who compares her unfavourably to his first wife Rebecca.
