Flashdance choreographer Arlene explains appeal of good dancers
Tuesday, 16 November 2010
Arlene Phillips, who recently planned the choreography for West End musical Flashdance, has been speaking about how important it is for performers to have a spark with the audience.
In an interview with the Telegraph, the former Strictly Come Dancing judge said she likes dancers who push themselves to achieve and find that special something.
"They need to be able to connect … that's what makes them different. They have to connect with their eyes," Phillips explained.
As well as Flashdance, the expert is also now working on The Wizard of Oz and said she has high hopes for Danielle Hope as Dorothy, whom she labelled "adorable".
Phillips seems to have succeeded in finding a special spark in Victoria Hamilton-Barritt, who plays Alex in Flashdance.
Quentin Letts from the Daily Mail recently said he was stunned by her talent and stated she has "enough energy to fuel a Lucozade factory".
