Youngster celebrates winning role in Billy Elliot
Tuesday, 19 October 2010
A nine-year-old actress is celebrating after securing a coveted role in the London West End production of Billy Elliot.
Emily Williams from Wingate, County Durham, will receive her first taste of fame after accepting the role of Debbie, the dance teacher's daughter in the stage adaptation of the popular film starring Jamie Bell.
Emily, who is a pupil at Wingate Junior School, will perform in front of thousands of people at the Victoria Palace Theatre later in the year for a six-month contract.
After beating off stiff competition from hundreds of other young hopefuls, Emily will begin her run on November 29th.
Proud mother Janet told the Sunday Sun: "We are so proud of her. It was a mixture of emotions when we were told she had got the part. She has been dancing since she was a toddler and loves every minute of it."
Earlier this year in March, the production of Billy Elliot celebrated its fifth year on the London stage with a special anniversary gala performance at the Victoria Palace Theatre.
