Love scenes 'better for those with London theatre tickets than cinemagoers'
Thursday, 30 September 2010
It has been argued that love scenes in dramas will be more realistic for those with London theatre tickets for a play or musical than for people attending a film at the cinema.
The Playgoer states that actors on a stage are able to project a much more charismatic persona to live audiences than film stars can provide, even without elaborate camerawork and lighting.
"On stage it's not about the face. There's the body, the voice … in a word, the presence", the article points out.
Indeed, the Playgoer opines that even older actors are able to come across as passionate and perhaps sexy in pieces written for the stage, thanks in part to the distance between then and the audience, which "can hide such incidental attributes of age and physique".
Anyone who wants to test this theory for themselves could consider buying London theatre tickets for a love story in the West End.
Love Never Dies, Grease or Dreamboats and Petticoats could be ideal for this purpose.
