Young performer clinches Billy Elliot role in West End
Monday, 20 September 2010
A young performer is celebrating this week after winning a part in the hit West End musical Billy Elliot.
Connor Lawson from east Durham beat dozens of other hopefuls in the audition stages and was then offered the role of Michael, Billy's best friend in the story.
He will tread the boards of the Victoria Palace Theatre in London from November 29th 2010 onwards.
The 12-year-old comes from a family of miners like Billy, but realised he wanted to be on stage from an early age and went to theatre school.
Speaking to the Journal Live, Connor said he can't wait to take to the stage in his first performance.
"I am very excited as it's a really good experience and the opportunity of a lifetime … I'm most looking forward to doing Expressing Yourself as I've never done anything like that in front of a big crowd before," he commented.
Billy Elliot uses a rotating cast of schoolboys to cover its eight shows a week so that the young actors do not get tired.
