Oliver! star Kerry Ellis 'raises the roof' at Theatre Royal Drury Lane
Friday, 10 September 2010
Kerry Ellis, one of the stars of Theatre Royal Drury Lane show Oliver!, "raises the roof" whenever she performs.
This is the view of the Daily Mail's arts critic Baz Bamigboye, who praised the singer's "quiet, calm" voice and impressive stage presence.
In particular, he noted that her soprano tones can be adapted to rockier tunes without resorting to belting out big numbers.
Ellis is currently starring as Nancy in the hit West End show after taking over from Jodie Prenger, but has also wowed the crowds with stints in We Will Rock You and Wicked.
Bamigboye said he has kept a close eye on the starlet's progress in recent years and claimed that she is a "real artist" who commands respect from audiences.
"She's no manufactured wannabe from some reality TV show - she has worked her way to success the hard way," the expert remarked.
Other actors currently starring in the Theatre Royal Drury Lane production of Oliver! include comic Russ Abbott, who portrays Fagin, and Steven Hartley, who has taken the role of Bill Sikes.
