Andrew Scott promises 'tender' performance in Old Vic Theatre's Design for Living
Friday, 10 September 2010
Those who buy theatre tickets for Noel Coward's Design for Living at the Old Vic Theatre can expect a tender display from lead Andrew Scott.
Speaking to the Metro, Scott said that his character Leo was partly based on Coward himself, which gives the production an extra dimension.
The play, which is coming to the Old Vic Theatre on September 15th 2010, tells the story of a love triangle featuring a troubled playwright.
Scott said that "tenderness" will be at the heart of his performance, rather than "blatant sexuality".
The actor - who recently wowed TV audiences with his portrayal of Moriarty in three-part BBC drama Sherlock - explained that the play will have a resonance with modern concerns.
He commented: "The relationship between your talent and your private life is a very modern thing for our internet generation and I do think it's important to keep them separate."
Design for Living has not been seen by London theatre fans for the past 15 years and was initially banned when Coward wrote it in 1933.
