London theatre tickets to become available for Sondheim on Sondheim?
Thursday, 9 September 2010
Stephen Sondheim enthusiasts may be able to get their hands on London theatre tickets for a show paying tribute to him next year.
According to Variety, producer Sonia Friedman hopes to get the opportunity to work on Sondheim on Sondheim with a view to bringing it to the West End in spring 2011.
She said that although it is still early days, she would like to involve a rolling cast of big names in the musical, which features songs from the composer's back catalogue and one new tune interspersed with footage of him.
No potential venue has yet been revealed as a possible home for Sondheim on Sondheim in London.
In April 2010, Ben Brantley reviewed the Broadway version of the show for the New York Times.
He called it "a genial, multimedia commemorative scrapbook on the life, times and career of [Sondheim]" and said it is a must-see for his fans.
Stephen Sondheim turned 80 in March this year.
