Andrew Lloyd Webber 'is in discussions to sell four West End theatres'
Monday, 6 September 2010
It has been revealed that Andrew Lloyd Webber is in talks to sell four of his West End theatres.
The theatre mogul and his company the Really Useful Group are reportedly discussing the possibility of former BBC chairman Michael Grade buying the New London, Palace, Cambridge and Her Majesty's theatres.
However, a spokesperson told the Stage nothing has been agreed upon yet regarding the deal, which would not include Lord Lloyd Webber's intellectual property rights, nor affect theatregoers.
"We have not received an offer that, at this stage, would be acceptable to Really Useful Group or Andrew," she added.
Lord Lloyd Webber would still own the London Palladium and Theatre Royal Drury Lane - current homes of Sister Act and Oliver! respectively - if the deal were to go ahead.
The composer launched Love Never Dies earlier in 2010, just months after he was given the all-clear for prostate cancer. He was also involved in the TV talent search for a new Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.
