Willy Russell plays 'may be staying on in West End'
Monday, 6 September 2010
The plays Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine may be staying on at the Trafalgar Studios, it has been revealed.
According to WhatsonStage.com, Tim Piggott-Smith - who is currently appearing in Educating Rita - has said organisers of the Willy Russell season are keen to have both productions at the venue for a little longer than the original October 30th 2010 deadline.
However, he did not say how long a possible extension could last for.
Piggott-Smith will be starring in King Lear in Leeds in autumn 2011, so he should have plenty of time to stay in London's theatreland a little longer.
Last month, the actor told BBC News he finds young people to be his toughest critics when it comes to Educating Rita, as they study the play for their exams at school.
"If they sense it's not real, that's when they get restless," he explained.
Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine are currently complementing fellow Willy Russell play Blood Brothers, which is showing at the Phoenix Theatre.
