Jennifer Saunders I was so keen to write the Spice Girls musical
Friday, 3 September 2010
Jennifer Saunders is to co-write the forthcoming Spice Girls musical with Mamma Mia!'s Judy Craymer - and she says she is thrilled to have been given the opportunity to do so.
The comedian told the Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye she was eager to get involved from the very beginning.
"I really didn't want anyone else to write this musical. The Spice Girls were such a great part of my daughters' growing up and I wanted to make sure this didn't disappoint," she explained.
Craymer said the musical will not be a tribute or a biographical show, but will instead be a contemporary tale about a group of young women, which primarily focuses on one girl and her mum.
About 20 Spice Girls songs will be featured in what has been provisionally labelled Viva Forever and Mr Bamigboye speculates it may succeed Jersey Boys into the Prince Edward Theatre in 2012.
Saunders, together with comedy partner Dawn French, once featured in the Who Do You Think You Are? music video with the Spice Girls for Comic Relief.
