Gambon Krapp's Last Tape was important to me
Thursday, 2 September 2010
Veteran actor Michael Gambon has said it was important for him to accept a role in Krapp's Last Tape, because it marked his return to the theatre after illness.
Speaking to the London Evening Standard, he said he was very upset about having to pull out of The Habit of Art last year, because the part had been written specifically for him.
However, he insists he is now fighting fit and more than ready to tread the boards again, this time at the Duchess Theatre.
"I seem to need to do a play a year. I feel wrong if I haven't got one planned," Gambon commented.
Krapp's Last Tape was written by Samuel Beckett and sees the elderly Mr Krapp reflecting on his life by recording details of each year on to a tape recorder every birthday.
It will open on September 15th 2010 and is to succeed The Secret of Sherlock Holmes, which closes this week.
