Love of family entertainment 'is driving demand for London theatre tickets'
Wednesday, 1 September 2010
An increase in the amount of family entertainment and variety shows on television is helping to increase demand for London theatre tickets.
The London Evening Standard said programmes such as Over the Rainbow are making people realise how much live theatre has to offer.
Furthermore, after viewers vote for the winners and decide who progresses to the West End, they are also likely to want to see the finished product and go on to book London theatre tickets for the corresponding musical or play.
The newspaper said a strong year has been predicted for the West End, with shows like The Wizard of Oz sure to be particularly popular.
It recommended looking online for tickets in order to save money and decide upon which musical or play to see next.
"You can ensure you'll have a great time and the only difficulty you'll face is in choosing just one show from the dozens of fantastic performances on offer," the article concluded.
The conclusion of Over the Rainbow earlier this year saw Danielle Hope chosen to play the lead role in The Wizard of Oz, which will open at the London Palladium in March 2011.
