Ruthie Henshall to join Blithe Spirit at Apollo Theatre
Tuesday, 31 August 2010
It has been revealed that West End regular Ruthie Henshall is to join the cast of the Noel Coward play Blithe Spirit when it opens next year.
The performer will star alongside the previously-announced Alison Steadman, Robert Bathurst and Hermione Norris at the Apollo Theatre from March 9th until June 18th 2011.
She will be playing the ghost Elvira, who is unwittingly brought back from the spirit world by medium Madame Arcati (Steadman) after Charles Condomine (Bathurst) decides he wants to hold a séance.
However, Elvira is not pleased to discover that Charles, to whom she was married before her untimely death, is now remarried to another woman (Norris) and vows to win him back.
Henshall is no stranger to the West End, having appeared in a number of shows, most recently Chicago at the Cambridge Theatre.
Coward reportedly wrote Blithe Spirit in just seven days during 1941 as a form of escapist entertainment while the country was being bombarded by German air raids.
