Billy Elliot 'is a dazzling adaptation'
Tuesday, 24 August 2010
West End hit Billy Elliot has been praised for its moving storyline by one London theatre critic.
In an article for the Express, Mark Shenton said the show is all about the powers of art to transform lives and that it works brilliantly.
"Billy Elliot … dazzlingly shows how to transform a film for the stage," he commented, adding that Rhys Yeomans gave a "heartbreakingly wonderful performance" as the lead character when he watched the musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre.
Mr Shenton concluded by giving Billy Elliot five stars out of five and recommended it to theatregoers.
First opening in 2005, Billy Elliot is based on the 2000 film of the same name which starred Jamie Bell and Julie Walters.
It tells the story of a young boy from a mining community who longs to be a dancer, but knows his father will not approve, so takes lessons in secret.
