Coronation Street play to hit London's West End?
Friday, 20 August 2010
Coronation Street fans may be in their element after it was rumoured that a play about the soap could be making its way to the West End.
Corrie! - which squeezes all 7,400-plus episodes of the TV programme into a two-hour show - opened at the Lowry in Salford earlier this week, but the Sun reports it has been a surprise hit.
"We've been bowled over by how well it's gone down. We're in talks with London theatres and we hope to have something tied up soon," an unnamed insider told the newspaper.
The source said it could rank as one of the West End's most fun nights out if the plans come to fruition.
Meanwhile, it was reported recently that Kevin Kennedy, who played Curly Watts in Coronation Street, is to star in the musical We Will Rock You.
The actor will play Pop in the show at the Dominion Theatre, which features all the hits of chart-toppers Queen.
