Goldberg 'is quite something in the intoxicating Sister Act'
Thursday, 19 August 2010
Anyone who has not yet seen Whoopi Goldberg in West End show Sister Act should do so if they can.
This is the suggestion of Henry Hitchings, writing for the London Evening Standard, who said the Hollywood star is "quite something" as Mother Superior, bringing extra star quality to the "intoxicatingly feelgood" musical.
"She's fresh and funny and when she speaks her distinctive, smoky purr manages to be both stately and suggestive," he commented.
However, Mr Hitchings said he thought the best performance came from Patina Miller as Deloris, whom he praised for her warmth as well as her soaring voice.
Earlier this week, WhatsonStage.com revealed that Sally Dexter will replace Goldberg in Sister Act when the latter finishes her stint at the London Palladium on August 31st 2010.
She will retain the role of Mother Superior until the musical closes its curtains for the last time on October 30th.
