Sally Dexter to succeed Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act
Wednesday, 18 August 2010
It has been revealed that Sally Dexter is to succeed Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act when the latter finishes her West End stint.
According to WhatsonStage.com, former Billy Elliot star Dexter is to take on the role of Mother Superior until October 30th 2010, when the musical will shut its doors for the last time at the London Palladium.
Goldberg has been playing the head nun since August 10th, but her performing contract only lasts until August 31st.
She has been receiving rave reviews from the critics, who have praised her witty acting style and comedic timing.
Earlier this week, the Telegraph's Charles Spencer said she is "warm and engaging" as Mother Superior.
The part has also been played by Sheila Hancock, who starred in Sister Act when it first opened in the West End in May 2009.
In March 2011, the new musical The Wizard of Oz will take its place in the same venue.
