Hannah Waddingham to play witch in The Wizard of Oz?
Friday, 30 July 2010
It has been rumoured that stage actress Hannah Waddingham could be in line for a role in new West End musical The Wizard of Oz.
Currently playing a witch in Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, WhatsonStage.com reports that she could be set to take on the role of Wicked Witch of the East when Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical opens at the London Palladium next March.
Waddingham is best known for her appearances in Spamalot and A Little Night Music, which recently transferred to Broadway.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Sophie Evans - runner-up in BBC One's talent search Over the Rainbow - will also be joining The Wizard of Oz as a stand-in for winner Danielle Hope.
Evans will play Dorothy on Tuesday evenings, as well as during Hope's holidays.
Lord Lloyd Webber explained this is to make sure the girls are not overworked when the musical opens on March 1st 2011.
