Amanda Holden 'has won role of Princess Fiona in Shrek'
Friday, 30 July 2010
People who buy London theatre tickets for Shrek next year will be able to see Amanda Holden playing Princess Fiona, it has been claimed.
The Daily Mail columnist Baz Bamigboye has reported that the production team was impressed with the Britain's Got Talent judge's acting, singing and dancing and has offered her the role.
Meanwhile, Shrek himself could be played by Guys and Dolls actor Nigel Lindsay and Lord Farquaad by Nigel Harman, the insider said.
Donkey will be played by one-time pop singer Richard Blackwood.
Although Holden has not yet formally signed the Shrek contract, she is thought to have agreed to accept the role verbally and will be starting rehearsals next spring.
She is no stranger to musicals, having starred in Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2003 to critical acclaim.
Shrek the Musical will open at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and is to replace Oliver!, which recently posted closing notices.
