Sophie Evans, the runner-up in BBC One's talent search Over the Rainbow, is to understudy winner Danielle Hope as Dorothy.
It has been announced that Evans will take over as Dorothy when the public's favourite Hope is away on holiday in the weeks beginning May 2nd, September 5th and September 12th 2011.
She will also play the role on Tuesday evenings, giving London theatre fans the chance to see both their first and second choices in the new musical next year.
Evans will also begin a course at the Arts Educational School in September which is being funded by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Meanwhile, Lauren Samuels - who came third in Over the Rainbow - will be appearing in Grease as of next week.
The Wizard of Oz will open at the London Palladium on March 1st 2011 as the successor to Sister Act, which is now showing at the same venue.
Producers have promised a musical full of special effects, with the original revolving stage being restored especially for the show.
