Avenue Q posts West End closing notices
Avenue Q is to close in London later this year.
Thursday, 15 July 2010
It has been announced that West End favourite Avenue Q is to close in London after four-and-a-half years.
The musical - which began life at the Noel Coward Theatre before moving on to the Gielgud and finally Wyndham's Theatre earlier this year - will close its doors for the last time on October 30th 2010.
Set in a street in New York, Avenue Q features characters such as Princeton, Kate Monster, Brian, Rod and Nicky, who all face some kind of problem - unrequited love, joblessness and failure among them.
They explain their trials and tribulations and try to work them out through songs like What Do You Do With a BA in English?, It Sucks To Be Me and Everyone's A Little Bit Racist, resulting in a sort of risque Sesame Street.
Commenting on Avenue Q's departure, Kate Monster said: "We've had a great time, it's been a real ball, but I think we've all grown up and got our sights set on living in a more up-market part of town."
It is not yet known what will replace Avenue Q at Wyndham's Theatre.
