West End venue to host Sondheim tribute concerts
The Queen's Theatre - current home of Les Miserables - will also host tributes to Stephen Sondheim this year.
Friday, 9 July 2010

West End venue the Queen's Theatre is to play host to four concerts to honour the achievements of Stephen Sondheim.

It will be the composer's 80th birthday this year and to mark the occasion, the stars of two of his musicals are to reunite for one-off performances.

The original cast of Merrily We Roll Along will head to the Queen's on Sunday October 31st 2010 for a matinee and an evening show that features some of its classic songs.

Meanwhile, Sunday November 7th 2010 will see the show tunes of Company get another airing, again with both a daytime and evening performance.

Sondheim has been a prolific composer and lyricist over the past six decades, winning more Tony Awards (eight) than any other composer.

His works include A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum and the lyrics for West Side Story.

The concerts will not affect the running of Les Miserables at the same venue.
