Thursday, 8 July 2010
The creators of Ghost Stories have said they were compelled to write the play based on a shared love of 'scun'.
As Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson explained to the Guardian, this is a combination of scary and fun which they both admire, so they used it to dream up a story full of enjoyable scares for the West End.
The duo said scun can be found in many different places, from urban legends passed down among families to Disney's Haunted Mansion ride.
Nyman also said he is prone to creating his own scun in the form of practical jokes.
He admitted that on the first night he and Dyson got together to start Ghost Stories, he set up a magic trick to knock on the wall after his co-writer had gone to bed in the same way as a phantom might.
"A second later I heard Jeremy running down the stairs, only to be greeted by my grinning face. Scun for me, not necessarily for him," the prankster laughed.
Ghost Stories officially opens at the Duke of York's Theatre on July 13thand will be booking until November 7th 2010.
