A plaque commemorating the life and music of Michael Jackson has been unveiled in the foyer of the Lyric Theatre by the director of Thriller - Live.
Adrian Grant joined up with British dance troupe Diversity - who were to have supported Jackson during his This Is It tour - to reveal the memorial yesterday (June 24th 2010), the eve of the first anniversary of his death.
He explained that in the same week in 2009, those behind Thriller - Live had to decide whether to cancel the show or go ahead with it as a mark of respect.
In the end, the musical continued and the cast dimmed the lights for a minute's silence before the cast went onstage to perform Jackson's most famous hits.
"We unveil this plaque here
in memory of Michael Jackson the entertainer, the humanitarian and also the individual who I'll always remember as a kind, loving and genuine soul," Mr Grant said.
It was also revealed this week that some photographs of Jackson taken in 1999 are to go up for auction. The never-before-seen shots show him in full stage makeup with blue glitter covering one eye and were taken by French photographer Arno Bani.
